ѿapp's Sustainability Champions, ArtFest and FREE Learning Community invite all ѿapp campus and Reno/Sparks Community members to join us for our 2025 ѿapp Earth Day Celebration!
This event is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. Activities will occur at different locations on campus during the celebration:
- 10–11:30 a.m. indoor events at the V. James Eardley Student Center in the Red Mountain Building at the ѿapp Dandini Campus.
- 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. outdoor events at the Plaza located between the Red Mountain Building and the E.L. Cord Child Care Center.
- 1–2 p.m. outdoor events at the Countess Angela Dandini Garden.
Since 1970, billions of people have come together each year to celebrate Earth Day. We hope you will join the ѿapp Earth Day Celebration to learn about sustainable practices in our community, how to help save the planet, and find ways to protect Earth's natural resources.
Earth Day Event Schedule
During ѿapp’s Earth Day Celebration, we encourage you to participate in the following activities:
10–11:30 a.m. at the V. James Eardley Student Services Center
- Learn how screen printing works and make your own ArtFest t-shirt or tote bag.
- Visit tables and learn about the endeavors of the ѿapp Adventure Club, Natural History Museum, the Wildlife Society, Honeycomb Project, Sustainable Human Resource, La Raza, Math Anxiety, Nevada Native Plant Society and the Center for Community and Global Connect, Reno-Sparks chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, and many more.
- Throughout the event you will enjoy “live” background music as performed by Professor Kurt Ehlers.
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Outdoor Plaza
- Watch the Green Children’s Theater perform “Follow the Moon Home.”
- Participate in the “Sustainability Action Sit-In” and see who won the student essay writing contest.
- Participate in the unique “Solar Workshop.”
- By popular demand, the are returning for this year’s celebration. Come out and meet them and learn how they are used as natural form of fire suppression.
- Plus many more activities.
1 p.m.–2 p.m. at the Countess Dandini Pollinator Garden
- Students from the E.L. Cord Child Care Center will release ladybugs and lacewings that act as natural pesticides for the pollinator garden.
- Get your hands dirty and help participate in planting your native plants.
- Enjoy a light refreshment of cookies!
Outdoor Event Table Reservation
While tables are already reserved inside the Student Center in the Red Mountain Building, limited space is still available in the Outdoor Plaza from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. You are invited to participate by hosting a table to display and discuss your endeavors related to sustainability and protecting our planet and its biodiversity.
