The Poker Debate: Organizing a Civil In-Class Argument
Date:
Dec. 7, 2020,
1
- 2 p.m.
Description:
Presented by ÃÛÑ¿app English Professor Joshua Shinn
Contemporary disagreement and debate often devolves into personal attacks and polarization. To combat this in the classroom (and in society at large), Joshua has devised a playing-card-based activity that illustrates how teachers can conduct a civil in-class argument across disciplines. This will teach students how to create balanced opinion-forming, and will work against individual biases and motivated reasoning and research.
