On Saturday, May 16, the (NMSA) presented Truckee Meadows Community College faculty and staff with a gift of $300,000 to support the ѿapp Veterans Resource Center and continuing veterans’ services at the community college.
At their Fourth Annual Reno Gala at the Silver Legacy, NMSA presented an oversized check to ѿapp President Dr. Maria Sheehan and other ѿapp staff to signify the gift.
“We were surprised and so grateful to receive this wonderful gift,” says Dean of Student Services, Estela Gutierrez. “Our Veterans Resource Center can expand our services to our veteran students with this support.”
ѿapp’s Veterans Resource Center (VRC), on the Dandini Campus in the V. James Eardley Student Center, opened in 2014 and operates with veteran staff and volunteers. Earlier this year, Zack Totans, Veterans Coordinator, had applied for a NMSA grant and hosted a visit of dignitaries.
“With the opening of the VRC last year, we’ve been able to broaden the scope of services that we can offer to student veterans,” said Totans. “This gift is a game changer for ѿapp that will allow for new services and serve more students.”
